Saadi wrote the Golestan and the Bustan after some thirty years of travelling — which is why his lines read like advice from someone who has actually been somewhere, rather than from a desk.

كتب سعدي «الگلستان» و«البوستان» بعد نحو ثلاثين عامًا من الترحال، ولهذا تقرأ أبياته كنصيحة من رجل رأى الطريق بنفسه لا من رجل جلس إلى مكتب.
