Every tool has edges. These are ours, written down before you find them the hard way —
in the middle of a piece. If something here is what you need, tell us: it moves up the list.
Draw your own shapes with a pen
You can compose with text, ornaments and the shape library, but there is no bézier pen for drawing an arbitrary outline by hand.
Combine shapes (union, subtract, intersect)
Shapes stack and overlap, and the weld tool flattens artwork for cutting — but there are no boolean operations that produce one editable path from two.
Trace a photo or a scan into vectors
Images can sit on the canvas, but they stay images — nothing converts a scanned piece of calligraphy into editable outlines.
Multi-colour (COLR) typefaces
The renderer draws outlines, one colour per layer. A colour font would print as a flat silhouette, so we do not offer one — the build refuses to ship a colour face while that is true.
Export many names in one action
Each design exports on its own. A wedding list of forty names is still forty exports.
Stay perfectly smooth on a very heavy piece
Shaping runs on the same thread as the interface. A long phrase in a heavy style can make the canvas pause for a moment while it is measured.
The largest one, and the most honest. Classical Thuluth is not a typeface — it is a
hand: the same letter is drawn differently depending on what sits beside it, and a
master composes a page the way a calligrapher composes, not the way a font lays out. We ship
real Thuluth glyphs and real joins, and you can compose beautiful work with them. What we do
not yet have is a parametric nib-and-spine engine that would let you pull a stroke freely the
way a reed pen does. That is a research track, not a sprint, and we would rather say so than
ship a worse imitation of something calligraphers already do properly by hand.
