Kufic — geometry becomes scriptureالكوفي — حين صارت الهندسة قرآناً

Named after Kufa in Iraq, Kufic was the first script codified for the Qur'an. Its logic is architectural: strokes sit on a strict horizontal baseline, verticals rise like columns, and the space between letters matters as much as the letters themselves. For three centuries nearly every Qur'an was written in it, gold on vellum, often with no dots or vowels at all — readers were expected to know the text by heart. Kufic later split into blossoming varieties: foliated Kufic sprouting leaves, plaited Kufic weaving knots, and square Kufic — the purely geometric maze you see on Central Asian mosques, and in the MASHQ logo itself.
