Arabic calligraphy for kids

Young children learn letters best with a pencil and paper, and many six-year-olds are still working out how to hold a pen. So children start here on printed sheets, and use the screen only for a few minutes of scored practice.

How it works

1. Print a sheet. Every letter in every script has a free A4 sheet: a model row, rows to trace and empty rows to write alone.
2. Trace one letter. Five minutes on a tablet or phone: the letter appears faintly and the child writes over it.
3. Earn by mastery. A lesson is passed on a score, not on minutes spent. Children are rewarded for a letter they have learned, never for screen time.
4. Grow into the pen. From about nine, a flat calligraphy pen; the reed and ink when the hand is steady.

From what age?

From about six with felt-tips and printed sheets; the full scored path suits children from about nine.

Is the camera used?

Only if you ask the Studio to read your sheet, and then the picture never leaves the device. It is off by default.

Which script for children?

Naskh for reading and school; Ruq’ah for their everyday handwriting.
