Square Kufic generator
Type an Arabic word or name and it is built in square Kufic, letter by letter on a strict grid, right on this page; then open it in Mashq Studio to colour it and download it as SVG, PNG or PDF.
Open it in the Studio then press ▦ Square Kufi in Composition.
Step by step
- Type the word. Type an Arabic word or name in the box above, up to 24 letters. Short words and names make the strongest blocks.
- See it on the grid. The page builds it at once, letter by letter, the way the Studio’s ▦ Square Kufi button does.
- Open it in the Studio. Press “Open it in the Studio” and the word arrives set in a Kufic face. Select it and press ▦ Square Kufi in Composition: the block lands as a new layer you can colour, resize and place on a sheet.
- Download it. Export SVG (vector outlines), PNG (switch on No BG for a transparent background) or PDF. The first four downloads are free; the first three carry a small stamp.
The square Kufic alphabet on this grid
Every letter the generator knows, each alone. A letter that joins the next one reaches it through one cell on the baseline; ا د ذ ر ز و ة ء and lām-alif never join forward, so the stroke breaks after them, as it does with a pen.
Questions
Is the square Kufic generator free?
Yes. Building and previewing here is free with no account, and so is designing in the Studio. The Studio’s first four downloads are free (the first three carry a small stamp); after that a 7-day pass is AED 25.
Which letters can it build?
The 28 letters, with ة, ى, ء and lām-alif. A hamza seat is drawn as a bare alif and ق has no tail below the line; vowel marks and tatweel are left out, and anything that is not an Arabic letter is skipped.
Is this how a calligrapher writes square Kufic?
It keeps the same rules: straight strokes on a square grid, one shared baseline, and one cell joining a letter to the next. But each letter here has one fixed shape, our reading of the old charts; a calligrapher fits the letters to the square, stretching and folding them. For that, ask a calligrapher.
Can I use it as a logo?
A logo is commercial use. Send us the design link on WhatsApp before you use it and we tell you what applies (terms: “Commercial use: ask first”).
