Maghribi — the West's own handالمغربي — يدُ الغربِ الإسلامي

While the East refined Naskh and Thuluth, North Africa and Andalusia grew a script of their own. Maghribi descends from Kufic rather than the eastern round hands, and it kept habits the East abandoned: deep, sweeping bowls that dive below the baseline, a distinctive single-dotted qaf and faa convention, and letters drawn with a pointed reed that gives an even, unmodulated line. Qur'ans of Fez, Cordoba and Kairouan are written in it, often on dyed parchment in gold and blue. It survives today in Morocco's official documents and mosque inscriptions — a living regional voice that never bowed to Ottoman fashion. Its rhythm is unmistakable: horizontal, generous, with descenders that curl like waves under the text.
